Improve school success

Description

In order to support adolescents at risk of poverty in their education, Fundación Balia proposes the “DISTRITO JOVEN” program, a socio-educational space for adolescents who are in a vulnerable situation and with academic problems.

Within this space, youngers participate in activities developed to promote school success and the development of emotional skills and talent. They also receive education in values participate in activities where ​​is promoted attitudes based on respect, equality, solidarity and environmental responsibility. Entrepreneurship is also encouraged.

Teenagers will be attended by a qualified professional team, four afternoons a week and will perform extraordinary activities on some Fridays and Saturdays.

Activities

The activities will take place in Madrid at the facilities of the IES Mariano Jose de Larra (Latin district) and in the IES Jaime Vera (Tetuán district) Each group of teenagers will attend four afternoons a week for three hours each afternoon, Monday through Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

 

In this space different activities are carried out:

  • Welcome to work on relational and peer interaction skills.
  • School reinforcement to improve their learning from their real academic level and provide individual support to improve their academic performance.
  • Snack to develop positive attitudes towards a balanced diet and at the same time work hygienic and healthy habits: hand washing, proper food handling, cleaning utensils, varied healthy menus, etc.
  • Development activities of emotional skills and talent as protection tools against the risk of exclusion.
  • Workshops to promote attitudes based on respect, equality, solidarity and environmental responsibility.

Outside these hours extraordinary trips are made to know and enjoy the culture and healthy leisure offered by the environments in which they live.

Internally, an evaluation and monitoring of the program is carried out for each student.

Who will benefit?

30 teenagers between 12 and 16 years old who are studying at the school.
